The Samsung i550 appears to mean serious business, thanks to its black body. It's a bit longer than usual but pretty slim for a phone that packs quite a punch. The phone is reasonably light too, thereby managing to score the "pocket-able" tag. The design is a bit odd as the phone's sides are slightly tapering at their ends but on the whole gives a sturdy feel

The Blackberry-Pearl-like track-ball on the phone gives it a high end feel but it's a notch below the Blackberry when it came to accuracy. The user-input will need some patience, but can be gotten used to with time. The Web-browser and GPS mapping shortcut keys are small and oddly placed. Thus, you'll end up accidentally hitting the wrong buttons from time to time

One of the highlight features of this phone is the GPS module with built-in maps. The i550 comes with the Route 66 mapping application. The interface is easier to use as compared to some of the other available GPS applications. The navigation interface is clearly visible even from a distance and the voice prompts are very helpful while driving as well. Mapping in India is still in a somewhat nascent stage, but compared to its contemporaries, the one installed in the i550 seems to be pretty useful
